Serbian man arrested in Germany with cocaine and outstanding warrant

A 41-year-old Serbian man was arrested at Neustrelitz central station on 20 March 2026. Police took him into custody after discovering he was wanted under an existing arrest warrant from Thuringia.

The man had been sentenced in 2025 by Sömmerda District Court near Erfurt. His conviction involved fraudulently obtaining benefits, resulting in a €2,250 fine or 37 days in prison as an alternative. When arrested, he could not pay the fine, leading to his detention.

During the arrest, officers searched him and found 0.2 grams of cocaine. This discovery adds a new charge under Germany's Narcotics Act. Authorities also confirmed that Switzerland had issued an entry ban against him until 2028 for similar offences. The man's professional background remains unknown, as no details about his career have been made public.

The arrest follows an outstanding warrant and new drug-related allegations. He now faces additional legal proceedings in Germany while serving the existing sentence. Swiss authorities have also barred him from entering the country for the next two years.
