Seven Basel-Country initiatives advance after council's summer 2025 review
The Basel-Country Cantonal Council has reviewed a series of proposals from the Basel-Land Wirtschaftskammer (Wika) in summer 2025. Out of the submissions, seven initiatives were officially declared legally valid. The remaining nine proposals did not receive recognition from any named body or institution.
Among the approved initiatives is 'State Responsibilities: Less Is More', which aims to streamline government functions. Another, 'Efficient Transit Hubs: Linking Public Transport and Private Vehicles', focuses on improving connections between different modes of transport.
The council also validated 'Future-Proof Transport Infrastructure: Completing the Southern Bypass', addressing long-term road planning. Energy concerns were covered by 'Sufficient and Affordable Energy: A Positive Energy Vision for the Future', while education saw support through 'Strengthening Career Guidance: Promoting Practical Education'.
Higher education alignment with job market needs was targeted in 'Better Aligning the University of Basel with the Labor Market'. Finally, the 'Bachgraben-Allschwil Feeder Route: Immediate Implementation' initiative gained approval, pushing for quicker infrastructure action.
The seven validated initiatives will now move forward in the legislative process. No official body has yet acknowledged the remaining nine proposals as valid or partially valid. The council's decisions set the stage for potential policy changes in transport, energy, and education.
