Sheinbaum shifts focus to women's cancer care in Mexico City briefing

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will hold a press conference on March 9, 2023. The event, part of her regular 'People's Morning Briefing', will take place at the General Hospital of Oncology for Women in the Gustavo A. Madero borough. This marks a change from the usual location at the National Palace.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Central Time, later than the typical 7:30 a.m. start. The mayor's choice of venue highlights the city's focus on women's health initiatives.

Over the past two years, Mexico City has expanded cancer screening for women. More than 50,000 free mammograms and Pap smears were provided across the city. Mobile health units were also introduced in 2025 to reach underserved communities.

In October 2025, Mayor Clara Brugada announced a 150 million peso investment. The funds went toward upgrading medical equipment at the Hospital de Oncología para la Mujer. These improvements aimed to enhance access to specialized cancer treatments for women in the city.

The press conference will draw attention to ongoing efforts in women's healthcare. Recent measures include expanded screenings, mobile clinics, and upgraded hospital facilities. These steps reflect the city's commitment to improving cancer detection and treatment for women.
