Siegfried Russwurm unanimously elected to lead Germany’s top science academy
Siegfried Russwurm has been unanimously elected as the next president of acatech, Germany’s National Academy of Science and Engineering. He will take office on April 1, 2026, replacing Thomas Weber. The appointment follows years of leadership in German industry and a strong focus on digital transformation.
Russwurm’s election took place on November 25, 2025, after a vote by acatech’s members. He has already served as vice president since May 2025 and joined the academy’s Presidium in October 2017. Before this role, he led the Federation of German Industries (BDI) as president from 2021 to 2024.
The transition period will run until Russwurm officially begins his term on April 1, 2026. His election brings together experience from industry, academia, and corporate governance. The academy expects his leadership to drive forward its strategic goals in science and engineering.
