Silke Torp, the current Finance State Secretary, has been elected as the new President of the State Audit Office in Schleswig-Holstein. The state parliament elected Torp with a broad majority on November 17, 2022, and her term will begin on January 1, 2023, succeeding outgoing President Gaby Schäfer.
Torp, a 56-year-old jurist, brings extensive experience in state administration and finance to her new role. She has previously worked as a lawyer and legal advisor at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and held leadership positions in the state finance administration and Ministry of Finance. Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU) praised Torp's qualifications and integrity. The CDU, Greens, FDP, and SSW parties voted for Torp, while the SPD cast opposing votes. A two-thirds majority was required for the election, and the term of office is twelve years. Torp was born in Bremen and studied law in Kiel.
Torp's election signals a continuation of her public service career in Schleswig-Holstein. Her experience and qualifications are expected to strengthen the State Audit Office's role in ensuring the efficient and effective use of public funds.
