Singapore Sanctions Four Israeli Extremists Over West Bank Violence
Singapore has imposed financial sanctions and travel bans on four Israeli men linked to violent extremism. The measures target Meir Mordechai Ettinger, Elisha Yered, Ben-Zion Gopstein, and Baruch Marzel. Authorities accuse them of orchestrating hate crimes and attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The decision follows an announcement made in September by Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) labelled the men’s actions as 'unlawful' and a direct threat to peace efforts. Their activities, described as 'egregious acts of extremist violence,' have reportedly fuelled tensions in the occupied territory.
The sanctions mark a rare move by Singapore to directly penalise individuals over violence in the West Bank. By targeting these men, the government aims to curb extremist activities and reinforce its opposition to illegal settlements. The Israeli government has not yet issued a public response to the measures.
