Sirajganj teachers lead rally demanding Jamuna upazila for marginalized char areas

Residents of char areas on the eastern bank of the Jamuna River at Kazipur, Sirajganj, have long been calling for the establishment of Jamuna upazila. Their demand, which could potentially reduce inequality and improve socio-economic conditions, has recently gained momentum with a rally led by local teachers.

The rally, held at Natuarpara Degree College, was presided over by the college's principal, Abdus Salam. It was attended by teachers from six eastern unions of Kazipur upazila and addressed by several leaders and teachers. The event was organized by the Jamuna Upazila Implementation Council, which has been advocating for the creation of the new upazila.

The isolation of char areas has deprived about two lakh people of access to essential services such as education, healthcare, communication, and administrative services for decades. The formation of Jamuna upazila is hoped to bridge this gap and bring much-needed development to the region. Prior to Abdul Kader, the name of the person who held the position of chairman of the Jamuna Upazila Implementation Council is not publicly available.

The rally at Natuarpara Degree College reflects the growing determination of local teachers and residents to push for the establishment of Jamuna upazila. If formed, the new upazila is expected to significantly improve the living conditions and access to services for the two lakh people residing in the char areas.
