Sivasagar residents push to rename a key road after Zubeen Garg

A significant demand has emerged in Sivasagar town, with residents calling for a public road to be named after renowned musician and actor Zubeen Garg. The proposal, submitted jointly by the Nikhil Asom Samajwadi Janaganatrik Ganaswaraj Party and the Indian Patriotic Federation Socialist (IPFS), has garnered substantial public support, including backing from the local Marwari community.

The initiative, officially submitted on October 30, 2023, seeks to dedicate a stretch of road from the embankment near the Dikhow river at Amguri ghat to Darbar Field Tiniali as 'Zubeen Garg Path'. The proposed road is a significant thoroughfare in the town, and its renaming would serve as a lasting tribute to Garg's contributions to Assamese culture and entertainment.

The proposal has been met with widespread approval from the public. The Marwari community of Sivasagar, in particular, has expressed its support for the initiative, highlighting Garg's cross-cultural appeal and impact on the region's arts and music scene.

The road renaming proposal, if approved, would serve as a permanent reminder of Zubeen Garg's immense contributions to Assamese culture and entertainment. The initiative, backed by prominent local parties and communities, reflects the deep respect and admiration that Garg commands among the people of Sivasagar and beyond.
