Six remanded in custody after explosive materials found at Dhaka madrassah
A Dhaka court has remanded six individuals in custody following an explosion at a madrassah in South Keraniganj. The blast took place at Ummal Qura International Madrassah in Hasnabad on Friday. Authorities have since recovered explosive materials from the scene.
Police initially arrested three men—Md. Rashed, Md. Sohel, and Md. Jamil—shortly after the incident. A court later granted a three-day remand for each under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On Sunday, three more suspects—Shahin (alias Abu Bakkar), Aminur (alias Dorji Amin), and Shafian Rahman Fakir—were placed on a seven-day remand. Additionally, three women—Asia Begum, Yasmin Akter, and Asmani Khatun—were remanded for three days each.
Investigators found crude bombs and other explosive devices at the madrassah. A case has since been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the blast.
The six suspects remain in custody as police continue their investigation. The recovered explosives and ongoing legal proceedings suggest a serious security concern. Further details are expected as the case progresses.
