SL Benfica's General Assembly Voting Underway With Six Slates Contending
Voting is underway for the SL Benfica's General Assembly, with 160,182 members eligible to cast their ballots. The election, held at Estádio da Luz and over 100 polling stations, began at 8:30 AM. Members can vote by presenting their membership card and a valid ID. They will submit four ballots each, with voting rights distributed based on membership duration. If no slate truck secures over 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held on November 8.
Members will cast votes for four governing bodies and the Remuneration Committee. More votes are granted to long-standing members: 3 votes for 1-5 years, 10 votes for 5-10 years, 20 votes for 10-25 years, and 50 votes for over 25 years. Six candidates are proposing slate trucks: Martim Mayer (List B), João Manteigas (List C), Cristóvão Carvalho (List D), Luís Filipe Vieira (List E), João Noronha Lopes (List F), and Rui Costa (List G). João Diogo Manteigas has endorsed the sole slate truck for the General Assembly Board led by João Ferreira Leite (List A). Cristóvão Carvalho is only contesting the Board of Directors.
With a total of six slate trucks vying for various positions, the election promises a close race. Members' votes, weighted by their tenure, will determine the outcome. If no slate truck secures an absolute majority, a runoff will be held to decide the final composition of the governing bodies.
