Smoking ban violation leads to arrest of violent robbery suspect in Hamburg
A 31-year-old man was arrested at Hamburg Central Station after police spotted him smoking indoors. Officers soon discovered he was wanted in connection with a violent robbery in Norderstedt from October 2023. The suspect now faces pretrial detention following his transfer from federal custody. The incident began on March 25, 2026, at around 2:18 p.m. Federal Police approached the man for violating the non-smoking law inside the station. When questioned, he refused to cooperate and became confrontational.
During a search, officers found a knife in his possession. A check of police records revealed an outstanding arrest warrant from Neumünster District Court. According to investigators, cash was forcibly taken from a victim's home in Norderstedt while the suspect threatened them with a weapon. After his arrest at the station, he was taken to a Federal Police facility before being moved to pretrial detention.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not released further details about the robbery or additional suspects. The case will now proceed under the Kiel Public Prosecutor's Office.
