Sogod Mayor Debunks Viral Foreign Trip Claims Amid Disasters
Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie 'Monyeen' Durano-Streegan has clarified her whereabouts amid recent calamities and addressed viral photos suggesting she was on a foreign trip with other officials. The Municipality of Sogod Public Information Office has confirmed the photos are not recent and do not depict the mayor and her colleagues on a trip abroad.
Streegan has confirmed she was in Sogod during the recent earthquakes and typhoons Tino and Uwan. She has denied traveling to London with other Cebu local officials, as claimed in the viral photos. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has corroborated her statement, affirming she was not among the 5th District mayors who traveled to the United Kingdom.
The viral photos, which sparked controversy, were taken two years ago, not recently. The travel inspection of the 5th District city officials to the United Kingdom was approved by Governor Gity De La Vera, along with the DILG's Foreign Travel Authority Portal. Only four of these officials had their FTAs approved by both the governor and the DILG. Streegan was not one of them.
The Municipality of Sogod Public Information Office has debunked the viral photos, confirming they are not recent and do not depict Mayor Lissa Marie 'Monyeen' Durano-Streegan and other 5th District officials on a foreign trip. Streegan has urged the public to verify information before sharing it online to prevent the spread of misinformation.
