Solingen and Langenfeld mayors unite to tackle hospital closures and A3 expansion

The mayors of Solingen and Langenfeld met this week to discuss pressing regional issues. Langenfeld’s mayor, Frank Schneider, hosted his Solingen counterpart, Tim Kurzbach, at the town hall on Wednesday. Their talks covered hospital closures, property tax reforms, and long-standing plans for expanding the A3 motorway.

The meeting marked the latest in a series of regular exchanges between the two teams. Since 2017, the mayors have taken turns visiting each other’s town halls, a tradition only paused during the pandemic. This week’s discussion focused on the recent shutdown of hospitals in Haan and Solingen, which has increased pressure on the remaining facilities in both cities. Officials from both administrations are now working to ensure emergency care and patient admissions remain stable.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to address the hospital crisis and infrastructure needs. Both cities will continue coordinating on healthcare provision while preparing for further zoom meetings on the A3 expansion. The next round of discussions is scheduled to take place in Solingen later this year.
