Solingen Unites to Fast-Track Two Major Business Hubs for Economic Growth
A cross-party motion in Solingen aims to boost the economy by speeding up the development of two key business sites, Fürkeltrath II and Schrodtberg. The plan, focusing on coordinated action, is backed by CDU, SPD, BfS, and FDP, targeting the expansion of these areas. Officials stress that planning security and swift progress are essential to prevent disjointed projects. SPD chair Ernst Lauterjung praised the constructive cooperation between parties in shaping the proposal.
The initiative incorporates core elements from the SPD's original plan while addressing priorities from other groups. A key objective is giving Solingen's economic development agency stronger tools to attract businesses. Authorities have noted that demand for commercial space exceeds what inner-city brownfield sites can provide.
Notably, the SPD remains opposed to developing the Buschfeld and Keusenhof areas, a stance maintained even at the Regional Council level. These locations were excluded from the current strategy to concentrate resources on the two designated sites.
The motion seeks to secure Solingen's economic future by ensuring structured and timely development. While no firms have yet settled in Fürkeltrath II or Schrodtberg, the framework is now in place to accelerate progress. The focus remains on meeting demand and strengthening the city's business landscape.
