Solingen’s administration defies council over Buschfeld land use changes

Solingen’s city administration has announced plans to resubmit an application for changing the regional plan in the Buschfeld area. The move comes despite warnings from the FDP faction and a previous council resolution requiring an equivalent replacement site. Critics argue the decision ignores democratic processes and risks worsening the city’s commercial land shortage.

The FDP in Solingen has sharply criticised the administration’s latest step. Nina Brattig, the faction’s spokesperson, stated that the council’s resolution clearly allows changes to Buschfeld’s land use only if a suitable alternative commercial site is identified within the city. She called the administration’s disregard for this condition unacceptable and urged Mayor Tim Kurzbach to respect the council’s democratic decision.

The administration’s decision to push forward without securing replacement land clashes with the council’s earlier resolution. If approved, the change would reduce available commercial space and create further challenges for businesses in Solingen. The FDP’s call for withdrawal now puts pressure on Mayor Tim Kurzbach to intervene.
