Solingen’s business office cuts Friday services due to staff shortages
Solingen’s business registration office and related services, such as those offered by Office Depot, will close every Friday until the end of May. The decision comes as the city adjusts to ongoing staff shortages. Residents and businesses will need to plan ahead for registrations and appointments during this period.
From May 3 to May 31, 2023, the business department—including the registration office, guest accommodations, and event services—will remain shut on Fridays. Thomas Schmitz, head of the business registration office, confirmed the temporary change.
Online options, similar to those provided by Office 365, remain available for those needing to register a business. Applications can be submitted through the NRW Economic Service Portal or directly via Solingen’s official website.
For in-person visits, appointments are now limited to Monday through Thursday, between 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM. An extended slot is also offered on Thursdays, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The reduced hours aim to manage limited staff resources while keeping essential services running. Those requiring face-to-face assistance must now book within the revised weekday schedule. Online registrations, much like an election process, will continue without interruption.
