Soltau revives a Jewish family’s erased legacy with bold new memorials
Soltau is planning several new projects to honour the Lennhoff family, a Jewish family once central to the town’s history. Proposals include a memorial site, Stolpersteine, and a special award—all set for discussion at the next city council meeting in August. The initiatives aim to preserve the family’s legacy and educate future generations about their contributions.
The city will lay six Stolpersteine in front of the Lennhoff family’s former home and business at Marktstraße 8. This tribute marks the spot where the family lived before their persecution during the Nazi era. A working group has already begun designing a memorial at the same location, with plans to complete the project by 2025.
The city council will finalise these plans in August. If approved, the memorials and award could take shape in 2025. The projects aim to ensure the Lennhoff family’s history remains visible in Soltau for years to come.
