Somerset Woman Disqualified from Voting in 2023 Election Due to Unupdated Registration
A Somerset County woman will not be able to cast her vote in the 2023 general election. This is due to an unupdated voter registration following her move from Mercer County in late May. The woman, whose name is withheld for privacy, was previously registered as a Democrat in Mercer County. Despite her relocation, her voter registration remained unchanged, missing the October 15 deadline to update her address and be eligible to vote in her new county. She approached the county Board of Elections, citing extenuating circumstances, but did not provide further details. The Board directed her to appeal to Judge Robert Wilson. However, the judge ruled that her unupdated registration disqualifies her from voting in the 2023 election. The woman's inability to vote in the 2023 general election serves as a reminder for all voters to ensure their registration details are up-to-date, especially when moving to a new county. Those who believe they are wrongfully disenfranchised can appeal to their local Board of Elections.
