Sophia Negroponte found guilty again in fatal stabbing of her best friend
Sophia Negroponte, the daughter of former US intelligence director John Negroponte, has been convicted for a second time in the fatal stabbing of her friend Yousuf Rasmussen. The 2020 killing followed a drunken argument at a Maryland home, shocking their close-knit social circle.
The incident began on a night in 2020 when both Negroponte and Rasmussen had been drinking at a private residence. What started as a dispute escalated into violence, ending with Rasmussen fatally stabbed. Negroponte later described him as her best friend in police interviews, adding to the tragedy of the event.
The retrial has ended with the same outcome: a guilty verdict for second-degree murder. Negroponte will return to court in February 2025 for sentencing, where she could receive up to 35 years in prison. The case, marked by legal disputes and emotional testimony, has finally reached its conclusion.
