South Chungcheong to Teach Dokdo and Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands’ Strategic Role in Schools
South Chungcheong Provincial Council has voted to include the Dokdo and Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands in the school curriculum. This move aims to educate students about the strategic importance of these islands.
In 2016, two notable cycling events highlighted the significance of these islands. First, a man named Kang Dong-Ho embarked on a solo cycling journey from Dokdo to the Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands in August of that year. Later, members of the Dokdo Sarang association followed suit, also cycling between the two islands.
The Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands serve as a strategic outpost, providing a crucial vantage point for monitoring and controlling nearby waters.
The provincial council's resolution seeks to raise awareness about these strategic islands among the region's youth. By incorporating their history and importance into the curriculum, students will gain a better understanding of their country's maritime territory.
