South Korea and Canada Strengthen Military Ties in Historic Call

South Korea’s top military officer, General Jin Yong-sung, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has held his first official call with Canada’s defence chief, General Jennie Carignan, Chief of the Defence Staff. The conversation focused on deepening defence ties between the two nations.

During the call, Jin thanked Canada for its role in maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula and across the Indo-Pacific. He referred to Canada as an 'old-time friend' and highlighted their bond as an 'alliance forged in blood'.

The phone call marks the beginning of closer military engagement between South Korea and Canada. Both sides will continue discussions on joint efforts to ensure peace in the region. Further meetings are expected to follow in the coming months.
