South Korea and Norway Forge Stronger Defence Ties with AI and Arms Deals
South Korea and Norway have agreed to strengthen defence ties, focusing on arms trade and future warfare technology. The talks included plans for Norway to acquire South Korean K9 self-propelled howitzers by late 2024. Both nations also explored deeper cooperation in artificial intelligence and unmanned systems.
Defence ministers from the two countries met to discuss security challenges and industrial collaboration. South Korea’s Ahn Gyu-back urged Norway to consider purchasing the Chunmoo rocket artillery system. He also sought Oslo’s support for Seoul’s push toward denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
The agreement fortifies defence links between the two nations. Norway will receive advanced howitzers, while both sides explore AI and drone technologies. The partnership reflects broader efforts to address global security challenges through shared innovation.
