South Korea and Sweden Revive Military Ties After 14-Year Hiatus
South Korea’s Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back met with his Swedish counterpart Pal Jonson in Stockholm this week. The talks marked the first defense ministerial meeting between the two countries in 14 years. Both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation in emerging military technologies.
During the discussions, Ahn thanked Sweden for its long-standing support in maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula. He also commended the country’s recent efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities following its NATO membership.
The talks in Stockholm signalled a renewed focus on defense ties between South Korea and Sweden. While no immediate deals were reached, the ministers pledged to continue cooperation in advanced military technologies. This follows Sweden’s recent push to expand its defense role within NATO.
