South Korea joins 2024’s Operation Christmas Drop for Pacific aid
South Korea will participate in this year's Operation Christmas Drop, a long-standing humanitarian mission led by the U.S. Air Force. The operation delivers essential supplies to remote islands in Micronesia. This marks the country's third year joining the effort since 2021.
Operation Christmas Drop began in 1952 and remains the world's longest-running humanitarian airlift. Each year, participating nations air-drop medicine, clothing, and daily necessities to isolated communities. Supplies are parachuted from an altitude of 60 metres to ensure safe delivery.
The mission highlights South Korea's ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts in the Pacific. By contributing personnel and aircraft, the country supports a decades-old tradition of aiding remote island communities. The operation will conclude with the team's return on December 16.
