ISRO Leader Officially Opens OrbitAID's Innovative Space Research and Development Facility in Bengaluru

Space technology research center unveiled by ISRO leader in Bengaluru, a new facility for OrbitAID.

The Indian space sector is taking a significant leap forward with the inauguration of OrbitAID's new Research and Development (R&D) facility in Bengaluru. This state-of-the-art centre, funded with an investment of over $2 million, represents a significant step in India's journey towards space sustainability on a global stage.

Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), officially opened the facility. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of developing technologies like docking and refueling interfaces for future space missions. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including diplomats from Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, as well as officials from ISRO, ISpA, defence officials, policymakers, academia, and executives from the space ecosystem.

OrbitAID, India's first space-tech startup in the field of On-Orbit Servicing and Refueling (OOSR), aims to build a circular economy for the global space tech ecosystem and strengthen collaborations with local universities, startups, and global partners. The discipline and focus of the OrbitAID team have led to the opening of this high-tech facility, which consists of a high-end control room, a class 10000 cleanroom, and fuel transfer facilities for assembling and integrating satellites.

The Bengaluru facility is just the beginning for OrbitAID. The founding members plan to establish a research and development facility in Tamil Nadu, with the goal of building India's first private propellant handling and satellite servicing hub. This expansion will serve as a cornerstone for developing and validating critical subsystems for OrbitAID's future missions.

Bhaskar Majumdar, Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures, is proud to be one of the early backers of OrbitAID. Shreya Ganesh from Unicorn India Ventures was also present during the opening ceremony of the Bengaluru facility. Mr. Sivarajah Ramanathan from StartupTN was also in attendance, demonstrating the support and encouragement for OrbitAID from various sectors.

The R&D facility in Bengaluru is India's largest commercial and one of the world's biggest for Rendezvous Proximity Operations & Docking (RPOD) infrastructure. This development marks a crucial milestone in India's space journey, as the country opens up to private players in the space ecosystem. OrbitAID, with its innovative approach and dedication, is leading the way in this new era of Indian space exploration.
