Spacecoin Transmits First Blockchain Transaction Through Space

Spacecoin has made history by successfully transmitting a blockchain transaction entirely through space, bypassing terrestrial internet links. The groundbreaking feat was demonstrated using a nanosatellite, marking a significant step towards secure, satellite-based communications.

The test transmission began in Punta Arenas, Chile, and was relayed via a nanosatellite called CTC-0 to a ground station in the Azores, Portugal, covering approximately 7,000 kilometers. The message was processed on the Creditcoin test network rather than a major public mainnet and was presented at TOKEN2049. The event served as a single proof-of-concept to verify that signature data and transaction integrity survive the trip through spaceborne links.

Spacecoin partnered with EnduroSat to supply the nanosatellite used in the test and plans to add three more satellites as part of a CTC-1 cluster, scheduled for launch in Q4 2025. This expansion aims to increase coverage and enable inter-satellite handoffs. While radio links used for satellite-based routing can be slow and vulnerable to interference, Spacecoin's achievement opens up new possibilities for secure communications in remote communities, disaster zones, or areas with unreliable or censored internet.

Spacecoin's successful blockchain transaction through space signals a new era in secure, satellite-based communications. With plans to launch more satellites and improve coverage, Spacecoin aims to compete with major players like Starlink. However, the company must address the challenges of slow radio links and potential interference to solidify its niche in the market.
