Spaniards on Germany: Efficient, but unsympathetic - Spaniards Admire Germany's Strengths, Prefer Own Culture and Quality of Life
A recent survey conducted in Spain has revealed an interesting perspective on how Spaniards view their European neighbours. The poll, supported by the German Embassy in Madrid and carried out by the Real Instituto Elcano, has found that Germany is held in high regard by Spaniards, even surpassing their own country in several areas.
The survey, which polled 1,008 Spanish residents aged 16 to 65 in February, showed that Spaniards consider Germany superior in various aspects. These include global influence, economic system, quality of democracy, science and technology, environmental policies, and gender equality. Spaniards admire Germany for its efficiency, economic strength, and renowned cars.
However, there are two areas where Spaniards prefer their own country. Culture and quality of life are seen as superior in Spain. Despite this, Spaniards' perception of Germany is largely positive, with the country viewed as having a thriving economy and a population that is organised, serious, hardworking, and efficient. On the other hand, Germans are perceived as strict, unfriendly, and self-centered, and Germany's climate, language, and cuisine receive lackluster reviews.
The survey, conducted by the prestigious Madrid-based think tank, offers a unique insight into the Spanish perception of Germany. While Spaniards acknowledge Germany's strengths in several areas, they also recognise their own country's superiority in culture and quality of life. Despite some negative perceptions, the overall view of Germany is positive, highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries.
