SPD Braunschweig unveils bold 2026 election platform for city's future
The SPD in Braunschweig has finalised its platform for the 2026 local elections. The party has also chosen its candidates for the city council. Their plans focus on education, public safety, and modernising the city despite financial pressures.
The proposals include new schools, improved transport, and solutions for vacant buildings in the city centre.
Under SPD leadership, Braunschweig has already invested in children, youth, and families. New daycare centres and schools have been built to support growing demand. The party now aims to keep funding these services even as budgets tighten.
Public safety remains a priority. The SPD has introduced a city guard, created weapon-free zones, and expanded video surveillance. Funding for the fire department and disaster preparedness will also continue.
The party wants to make getting around easier. Plans include finishing light rail lines and improving mobility options for all residents. By 2031, they hope to revitalise the Bohlweg area in time for the city's 1000th anniversary.
Vacant properties in the city centre will be addressed with sustainable projects. One example is the House of Music, which aims to bring new life to unused spaces. Culture, sports, and volunteer work will also receive more support under the SPD's plans.
The SPD's election platform covers education, transport, and urban development. Their goals include modern infrastructure, safer streets, and better services for families. If elected, the party will push these changes forward over the next five years.
