SPD Calls for Future-Proofing Solingen's Historic Church Buildings
The SPD faction in Solingen's city council has called for a comprehensive plan to secure the future of church buildings in the city. The SPD, led by Ernst Lauterjung, aims to prevent historic buildings like the Luther church from being lost. The city, however, cannot solely bear the financial burden or organizational responsibility for this task.
Lauterjung, the new SPD faction leader, has stressed the need to look beyond the current situation and plan for the future beyond 2030. The SPD suggests exploring various potential uses for church buildings, such as housing, art, culture, and community spaces. The party is ready to work closely with politics and administration, as well as congregations, to develop sustainable concepts for the future of these buildings.
The SPD will actively approach churches with possible perspectives and present initial initiatives. However, the city cannot be the sole savior for churches due to its own financial constraints. A joint process is required to ensure the long-term viability of these historic structures.
The SPD faction in Solingen is committed to preserving the city's church buildings for future generations. By working together with all stakeholders, the SPD hopes to develop a robust strategy that will secure the future of these important cultural and historical landmarks.
