SPD's Ahmetovic Regrets Postponement of German FM's China Visit
Adis Ahmetovic, the SPD's foreign policy spokesperson, has expressed regret over the postponement of German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul's visit to China. The cancellation, due to unresolved scheduling issues, has raised concerns about the state of German-China relations.
Ahmetovic stressed the importance of direct dialogue with China, especially given the current global tensions. He highlighted the need to address key issues such as export restrictions on raw materials and microchips, which have been a point of contention in German-China relations.
The SPD spokesperson also emphasized the need to maintain and deepen engagement with China on a range of issues, including peace, security, trade, economics, and human rights. Ahmetovic suggested that the cancellation of Wadephul's visit sends a poor signal for improving relations between the two countries.
Ahmetovic's remarks underscore the significance of high-level dialogue between Germany and China. With unresolved issues and global tensions at play, both countries must work towards rescheduling the visit and fostering constructive engagement.
