Frenzel new Interior State Secretary after transport affair - SPD's Manuela Schwesig Appoints Christian Frenzel as New Interior State Secretary
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has found a replacement for the vacant interior state secretary position. Christian Frenzel, the current ombudsman and former head of the state chancellery, has accepted the role following the resignation of Wolfgang Schmülling amidst a promotion scandal in the United States.
Schmülling stepped down last week while investigations into suspected accessory to embezzlement continue. Frenzel, who is also a member of the SPD, will take up the post on October 27, 2025. His new role will involve overseeing the police, domestic intelligence, fire department, municipal affairs, and civil protection sectors. Schwesig expressed satisfaction with Frenzel's acceptance of the position, highlighting his experience and qualifications for the role.
With Frenzel's appointment, the interior state secretary position in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is filled once again. His extensive background and expertise are expected to bring valuable leadership to the departments under his purview, as the region continues to navigate the ongoing investigations and scandal.
