Spiritualist convicted for GH¢146,000 chieftaincy and money-doubling scam
A 35-year-old spiritualist, Nana Adwoa Yamoah, has been convicted by an Accra Circuit Court for defrauding a man of over GH¢146,000. She promised to secure him a chieftaincy title and double his money but failed to deliver. The court has deferred sentencing until March 26, 2026, pending a pregnancy test. Yamoah took GH¢95,100.00 from Douglas Abu after claiming she could help him become a chief. She assured him of connections to the Asantehene and guaranteed his enstoolment by January. Abu later demanded a refund, but she refused to return the money.
She also collected an additional GH¢51,000.00, falsely promising to double the amount. Beyond the fraud, Yamoah operated without proper registration or a licence. After her arrest, she pleaded guilty to all charges and was remanded into police custody. The court has ordered a pregnancy test before finalising her sentence. The case will reconvene next year for the verdict.
Yamoah now awaits sentencing after admitting to defrauding Abu of GH¢146,100.00. The court's decision will be announced in March 2026. Until then, she remains in police custody.
