SRF Reporter Christof Franzen Named 'Journalist of the Year'
Christof Franzen, a reporter for SRF, has been named Journalist of the Year 2025. The award comes after a public online vote organised by the trade magazine Schweizer Journalist:in. Franzen dedicated the recognition to his team, calling journalism a collective effort.
The annual prize is given by Schweizer Journalist:in to media professionals who stand out in their field. This year, Franzen beat two other finalists: Republik journalist Adrienne Fichter and SonntagsBlick editor-in-chief Reza Rafi.
Franzen’s work in Russia earned particular praise. Judges highlighted his ability to give people a voice, even in places where distrust runs deep and words are chosen carefully. His reporting focuses on showing events as they unfold, without distortion. At the ceremony, he stressed that journalism relies on teamwork. The award, he said, belonged not just to him but to everyone who contributed to his stories.
The title of Journalist of the Year 2025 marks another milestone in Franzen’s career. His reporting from difficult regions has drawn attention for its honesty and depth. The award also reflects the magazine’s commitment to recognising outstanding work in Swiss media.
