St. Petersburg Auto Plant to Manufacture Lada Iskra Vehicles
Breaking News: Lada Iskra Assembly Heads to St. Petersburg
It's official! The St. Petersburg Auto Plant will be assembling the Lada Iskra cars, as confirmed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025) in June, reports Fontanka.
AvtoVAZ and Avtozavod Saint Petersburg LLC signed a cooperation agreement, focusing on optimizing production processes and preparing for the assembly of the new Lada Iskra model. This collaboration will involve creating production infrastructure, enhancing technological efficiency, and readying for mass production of the vehicle.
According to Maxim Sokolov, AvtoVAZ President, the decision to work with the St. Petersburg Auto Plant stems from their successful experience in assembling the Xcite model. "The Lada dealer network has a proven track record of selling Xcite cars produced in the Northern capital. We were impressed by the high quality of these crossovers and decided to initiate a joint assembly project for our latest offering, the Lada Iskra," he stated.
Production volumes and the start date of the St. Petersburg plant project are yet to be announced.
Intriguing sideline: Previously owned by Nissan, the St. Petersburg plant underwent a significant transformation early in 2023 when AvtoVAZ acquired 99% of its shares, prompting a shift in focus towards Lada vehicle production, including the new Iskra model[1][2]. This change allows the plant to leverage its capacity along with the facilities of the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, heralding a new era of auto manufacturing in the city.
A special working group established within the signed cooperation agreement will determine the exact volume of production and the start date for the St. Petersburg plant project[1].
Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting development in the world of automotive manufacturing!

The signing of the cooperation agreement between AvtoVAZ and Avtozavod Saint Petersburg LLC extends beyond the Lada Iskra assembly, as it aims to optimize production processes and enhance technological efficiency for future projects in the automotive industry. The financial sector may witness increased investment in the aerospace and transportation industries as the successful partnership between AvtoVAZ and the St. Petersburg Auto Plant could inspire similar collaborations within these industries. Given the St. Petersburg plant's significant transformation towards Lada vehicle production, including the new Iskra model, it could potentially attract foreign investment and stimulate the growth of the manufacturing industry in the city.
