Steinhausen elects new municipal president in razor-thin victory
Steinhausen has chosen two new leaders from The Centre (Die Mitte) party in recent elections. Markus Amhof will take over as municipal president after a narrow victory. Gregor Imholz has also won a seat on the town council, replacing a former member who moved to a higher office.
Markus Amhof secured the role of municipal president with 1,478 votes, beating his opponent Andreas Hürlimann by just 15 votes. His term will officially begin on December 22, 2025, once the legal appeal period ends. He will then serve until the current legislative term concludes on December 31, 2026.
Amhof and Imholz will begin their roles before the end of 2025. The municipal president’s term lasts until December 31, 2026, while Imholz’s council position aligns with the same schedule. Their elections follow a period of transition in Steinhausen’s local government.
