Refugee Reception Center in Stendal Resumes Full Operations - Stendal’s asylum center runs at full capacity despite sharp drop in arrivals

The initial reception center for asylum seekers in Stendal is now fully up and running. Around 500 people, including roughly 150 Ukrainians, are currently staying at the site. Most Ukrainian arrivals, however, remain there for only a few days before moving on.

News registrations at the facility have fallen sharply. In October, arrivals dropped by about 44 percent compared to the same month last year. This decline reflects a broader trend, as the number of asylum seekers arriving in Saxony-Anhalt has decreased significantly in recent months.

The Stendal site continues to operate at full capacity, housing hundreds of asylum seekers. With fewer new arrivals and planned closures, the state is adjusting its accommodation strategy. The focus remains on streamlining reception processes in key locations like Stendal and Halberstadt.
