Stolen Kia Picanto recovered after Mönchengladbach break-in leads to arrest

A break-in at a Mönchengladbach company on January 27 led to the theft of two cars. Police later recovered one of the stolen vehicles—a Kia Picanto—after spotting it in Viersen weeks later. The driver, a 43-year-old man, now faces multiple charges.

The incident began when thieves broke into the business premises in Mönchengladbach and took two cars. One of them, a Kia Picanto, was fitted with false licence plates before disappearing.

On March 17, the stolen Kia was seen in Viersen. A week later, on March 24, officers located the vehicle again—this time with the 43-year-old suspect behind the wheel. He was arrested on the spot due to outstanding warrants. Inside the car, police found additional stolen goods from the Mönchengladbach break-in. The seized items included more stolen licence plates, which had been attached to the Kia. The suspect is now under investigation for driving without a licence, driving under the influence, and motor vehicle theft.

The arrested man remains in custody while investigations continue. The recovered Kia Picanto and stolen items have been taken as evidence. Police have not yet confirmed whether the second stolen car has been found.
