Street Exhibition 'Victory - 80' Opens in Nizhny Novgorod

An outdoor exhibition titled 'Victory – 80' has opened in Nizhny Novgorod to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The display, which also honours the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, features rare photographs and archival materials. It will remain accessible to the public until the end of January 2026.

The exhibition launched on December 22 at the intersection of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya and Piskunov streets. Organisers include the Nizhny Novgorod Region Ministry of Culture, the Centre for Preserving Historical Memory, and the Russian Military Historical Society. Among the attendees were Vladimir Anisimov, Denis Baryshnikov, Ivan Kalmykov, and Sergei Kabailo.

Divided into three thematic sections, the display explores different aspects of wartime contributions. *'Armed with Love: Artists at War'* showcases 85 unique photographs of soldiers who later became famous artists. *'Young Defenders of the Fatherland'* highlights the role of children in the conflict, while *'Women in War'* focuses on female involvement in the war effort. During the opening, Pavel Ushakov, chairman of the Youth Council of the Nizhny Novgorod Union of Theater Workers, received a membership card from the Russian Military Historical Society. The archival work behind the exhibition was overseen by Elena Viktorovna Smirnova, who manages records for the regional Ministry of Internal, Regional, and Municipal Policy.

The exhibition will stay open for over a year, offering visitors a chance to engage with historical materials until January 2026. Its focus on artists, women, and young defenders provides a detailed look at lesser-known contributions during the war. The event underscores ongoing efforts to preserve and share wartime heritage.
