Government spokesman comments on Stromberg-Merz comparison - Stromberg’s return sparks comparisons to Chancellor Merz in new December film

The upcoming Stromberg film, Stromberg – Back to Business as Usual, will hit cinemas on December 4, 2023. Actor Christoph Maria Herbst, who plays the infamous Bernd Stromberg, has drawn striking comparisons between his character and Chancellor Friedrich Merz—even noting shared mannerisms and catchphrases.

Herbst highlighted a well-known moment from a documentary where Merz, stepping into an elevator, remarked, 'This makes the elevator a bit heavier.' The line, he said, could easily belong to Stromberg, capturing the same awkward, outdated humour reminiscent of the 1980s. Fans have sent Herbst countless clips pointing out similarities between Merz’s public behaviour and Stromberg’s cringe-worthy office antics.

The new Stromberg film arrives in December, with Herbst teasing a bolder, more exaggerated take on the character. The comparisons to Merz add another layer of real-world satire, blending fiction with political observation. Audiences can expect a mix of nostalgia and fresh absurdity when the movie releases.
