Strunde Path Remains Closed as Repairs Stall and Risks Grow
The Strunde Path, a key route in the Regio-Grün project, has remained severely damaged for over a year. The path was fully closed by late October 2025, forcing users onto a temporary detour. Now, concerns are growing over the lack of repair plans and the potential risks to nearby infrastructure.
Problems began in February 2025 when erosion weakened the dam along the Mühlengraben canal. By August of that year, the German Cycling Association (ADFC) had already raised alarms about the deteriorating conditions. Instead of improvements, the damage spread, leading to a full closure by autumn.
The 2026 draft budget offers no funding for long-term repairs. This leaves the path in limbo, despite its role in the publicly funded 'Erlebnisroute Ost' initiative. The city has yet to announce any concrete restoration efforts, and no official statements on financing or timelines have been made public. The situation also threatens the next Strunde Valley Festival, set for the first Sunday in September 2026. With the path in its current state, organisers face challenges, as repairs would require significant time and resources.
The Strunde Path remains closed, with no funds allocated for sustainable fixes. The ongoing damage risks further harm to the Mühlengraben dam and disrupts local events. For updates, residents and visitors are advised to check city administration notices or local news sources.
