Students lead lively debate ahead of Saxony-Anhalt's 2026 state election
Thomas Müntzer High School at Giebichenstein recently hosted a lively panel discussion on the upcoming Saxony-Anhalt state election. Held on September 6, 2026, the event gave students a chance to engage directly with political decision-makers. Organisers aimed to provide accessible political information while encouraging youth participation in the democratic process. The discussion was carefully planned by social studies teacher Ms. Götz and the school administration. Despite taking place during the final exam period, the timing complied with pre-election legal requirements. Six students stepped into moderator roles, guiding the conversation with professionalism and adaptability.
The event centred on topics important to young people, including education, youth policy, and social responsibility. The audience actively participated, with many students suggesting the discussion should continue beyond the scheduled time. Their enthusiasm led to plans for follow-up sessions in class to explore the insights further.
Both students and teachers were pleased with how the event unfolded. The organising team also used the opportunity to remind all eligible voters to take part in the state elections. The success of the panel has sparked hopes that it will become a regular part of school life. Follow-up sessions will allow students to reflect more deeply on the issues raised. Meanwhile, the school community remains focused on encouraging political engagement ahead of the election.
