Students March for Remembrance and Peace, Raising Funds for German War Graves
Students from Widukind Gymnasium are taking to the streets to raise funds for the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, the organization responsible for maintaining and preserving the graves of German war dead abroad. The initiative, led by 26 students from Class 9d, is part of the Commission's annual door-to-door and street collections in November.
The students will be collecting donations at the E-Center, in the city center, and across residential neighborhoods over the coming days. The Commission, which relies primarily on donations for its operations, has a core mission that includes documenting, preserving, and maintaining the graves of German war dead abroad. It also serves as a point of contact for relatives, public institutions, and private individuals on matters related to war graves.
The Commission promotes peace through its educational youth programs in Germany and abroad. The conflict in Ukraine has made the issue of war a harsh reality for the younger generation, making the students' efforts all the more poignant.
The students' donation drive is a testament to their commitment to remembrance and peace. The funds collected will go towards the Commission's vital work in maintaining the graves of German war dead and promoting peace through education.
