Studio City’s Affordable Housing Plan Sparks Outrage Among Residents
A planned affordable housing project in Studio City has divided local residents and officials. The debate centres on a five-storey building with 131 units, set to rise beside single-family homes. While the development aims to ease Los Angeles’ housing crisis, neighbours claim they were left out of key decisions.
The project falls under Los Angeles’ Citywide Housing Incentive Program (CHIP), designed to fast-track affordable housing. Developer representatives, including land use attorney Dave Rand, insist the plans follow CHIP rules precisely. Rand also confirmed that safety checks will take place before construction starts.
The dispute highlights tensions between urgent housing needs and community involvement. The project remains on track under CHIP guidelines, but residents continue to push for greater consultation. For now, the city planning commission holds the final say on whether adjustments will be made.
