Stuttgart 21 rail hub delayed until 2029 or later
The opening of Stuttgart's new rail hub, known as Stuttgart 21, has been pushed back by several years. Officials now confirm the project will not begin service before 2029. A full launch is unlikely to happen until at least 2030. Plans for the new railway junction were first shared publicly in late 2022. At the time, reports suggested an operational start in 2025. However, delays have since forced a major revision of the timeline.
Deutsche Bahn has not responded to questions about the setbacks. The company is currently developing a new operational concept for the project. This revised plan is expected to be finalised by mid-2026. No fixed opening date has been set for any part of the hub. The extended delays mean passengers and businesses will need to wait years longer than originally anticipated.
The project's timeline has shifted significantly, with partial operations now slated for 2029 at the earliest. Full functionality is not expected until 2030 or beyond. The revised operational concept will determine how the hub eventually functions.
