Stuttgart Secures 17-Year Water Supply Deal with Netze BW Wasser
Stuttgart has reached a fair and beneficial water supply agreement with Netze BW Wasser GmbH, as described by Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper. The city will retain permanent control over its water supply, ensuring a reliable drinking water source for the next 17 years.
The agreement, to be discussed by the city council on October 9th, grants Stuttgart three seats on the supervisory board of Netze BW Wasser, providing new voting rights without additional capital investment. Following approval, the contract will be signed and submitted to relevant supervisory authorities.
In a sign of goodwill, Netze BW Wasser has withdrawn its lawsuit seeking compensation for past water supply. The city will have the option to take over the water supply or put it out to tender after the 17-year concession period.
The agreement resolves the long-standing conflict between the city and the company, securing a stable water supply for Stuttgart's residents. Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper visited the town hall on October 20, 2025, following the signing of the agreement on October 17, 2025.
