Sudeten German Day 2026 to be held in Czech Republic for the first time - Sudeten German Day breaks tradition with historic 2026 event in Brno
For the first time, the Sudeten German Day will take place in Czechia. The 2026 main event is set for Brno, a historic step in relations between Sudeten Germans and Czechs. Organisers announced the decision on Thursday, marking a shift in decades of tradition.
After World War II, around three million ethnic Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia. Many resettled in Germany, leaving behind a legacy of displacement. In 2013, then-Prime Minister Petr Nečas acknowledged the expulsions caused 'great suffering and injustice to innocent people'.
The event in Brno represents a turning point in Czech-German reconciliation. It follows years of diplomatic efforts and the Sudeten German Association’s revised stance. The 2026 gathering will be the first of its kind held on Czech soil.
