Sulzburg to vote on urgent water pipeline repairs in Laufen district
Sulzburg's town council will meet on 5 March 2026 to address urgent repairs to ageing drinking water pipelines in the Laufen district. Many of the affected pipes, installed between the 1970s and 1980s, now show severe wear, corrosion, and frequent leaks. Officials will outline plans for a phased renewal to secure a reliable water supply for residents.
The most critical sections span 2.5 km along Laufenstraße (from house numbers 1 to 25) and 1.8 km on Bahnhofstraße (up to the Schulweg junction). These areas have been flagged as high-priority due to their advanced deterioration and rising leak rates. The council will review the pipes' current condition, proposed renovation phases, and a timeline for the work during the session.
To oversee the project, the administration has recommended Weber Engineering, a Freiburg-based firm with prior experience in Sulzburg. If approved, the company would handle planning, tendering, construction management, and on-site supervision. The council is expected to greenlight their appointment, marking the first step toward modernising the district's water infrastructure.
The upcoming vote will determine whether Weber Engineering proceeds with the preparations. Once approved, the phased upgrades aim to replace the oldest pipelines and reduce service disruptions. Residents in the Laufen district could see improvements to water pressure and supply stability in the following years.
