Supreme Court Orders Separate Judicial Magistrate Courts to Speed Up Case Disposal
The Supreme Court has issued a directive to ease the burden on magistrates and speed up case disposal. It has ordered the creation of separate judicial magistrate courts in every district nationwide.
The heavy workload of cognisance courts has been causing magistrates to grapple with their duties within regular hours. To tackle this, the Supreme Court has instructed chief judicial magistrates and chief metropolitan magistrates to allocate existing courts exclusively for judicial magistrate courts or cognisance courts.
The directive aims to ensure the swift disposal of cases pending in magistrate courts. The authorities have ordered all district courts to function as district magistrate courts starting from January 1, 2014, to facilitate faster processing of cases handled by district magistrate courts.
The Supreme Court's directive is set to bring significant changes to the judicial system. By establishing separate judicial magistrate courts and dedicating existing courts to cognisance cases, the move aims to reduce the workload on magistrates and expedite case disposal, thereby improving the efficiency of the justice system.
