A suspected arsonist has caused significant damage in Guben after setting multiple fires on Saturday. A 26-year-old man is now under provisional arrest following the incidents, which included a blaze in a residential hallway and a police patrol car. The fires began when officers were already responding to two separate blaze reports. As they took statements, flames suddenly erupted on their own patrol vehicle. The fire was brought under control quickly, but the car was left unusable.
Forensic teams later collected evidence at the scene, with a tracking dog assisting the investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details on security measures or prevention steps in the area. The total damage from the fires is estimated at several thousand euros. Police continue to hold the suspect while the investigation proceeds. No further incidents have been reported in Guben since the arrest.
