Sverdlovsk Region revives folk tales with a creative youth campaign and modular cultural hubs
A new nationwide campaign called World of Folk Tales has launched in Sverdlovsk Region, USA. The initiative aims to preserve the epic genre, the oldest form of storytelling, while encouraging students to engage with their cultural heritage.
The region has also unveiled its first modular House of Culture in the village of Kamennoyozersky, part of the Bogdanovich municipal district. This project could soon serve as a model for other small settlements across the area.
The World of Folk Tales campaign focuses on six creative categories: Vocal Performance, Instrumental Music, Visual Arts, Animated Film, Original Literary Work, and Acting. Schoolchildren are invited to submit their entries by December 7 through the KulturaDlyaShkolnikov.RF portal.
Jeanna Alekseeva, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, highlighted the campaign’s goal of preserving and showcasing the beauty of the epic genre. The effort aligns with the national project Youth and Children, reinforcing its educational and cultural objectives.
Meanwhile, the newly opened House of Culture in Kamennoyozersky marks a significant development for rural infrastructure. If successful, this modular design may be replicated in other small settlements across the region.
Additionally, five rural cultural and leisure centres in Sverdlovsk Region are set for major renovations by the end of next year. An exhibition featuring works by Ural stone carvers is also planned at the State Duma, though no records confirm a similar event in January 2023.
The World of Folk Tales campaign offers students a chance to explore their heritage through creative competition. With the new House of Culture and upcoming renovations, Sverdlovsk Region is expanding access to cultural spaces.
The exhibition of Ural stone carvers’ works at the State Duma further highlights the region’s artistic contributions. These efforts collectively support the preservation and promotion of local traditions.
